Giving Options

"The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work."  2 Corinthians 9:6-8

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these disciples to obey all the commands I have given you, and be sure of this: I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20

SEED GIVING

"Seed giving," or "seed-faith giving," is a concept believed in Christian traditions where one gives a financial offering (a "seed") with the exception that God will multiply it and return it as a "harvest" to meet their needs.  It is a voluntary gift given in faith, separate from a tithe, with the belief that this act of generosity will bring blessings and an increase to the giver's life. The concept draws from the agricultural metaphor of sowing seeds and expecting a harvest, emphasizing the giver's faith and the intention behind the gift.

Key aspects of seed giving:
  • Faith-based:
The act is performed with faith and the expectation of a harvest or a specific result from God.

  • Voluntary:
It is a free-will offering, not a mandatory religious obligation like tithing.

  • Expectation of a return:
The giver expects God to multiply their gift and provide a return to meet their needs or help them achieve goals.

  • "Planting" the seed:
The "seed" is a financial gift given to a church, ministry, or organization doing "kingdom work".

  • "Good ground":
The seed should be sown into fertile ground, meaning a trustworthy ministry or organization that aligns with God's purposes.

  • Not about compulsion:
Giving should come from a willing heart, not out of religious obligation or hypocrisy.

How it works:
  1. 1. Identify a need:
The giver may have a specific need or desire for which they want to sow a seed.

  2. 2. Sow the seed:
A financial gift is given to a ministry or church that is perceived as doing God's work.

  3. 3. Believe for a harvest:
The giver trusts God's timing and believes that their seed will grow into a harvest.

Distinction from tithing:

  • Tithing
is giving a portion of your income (often 10%) to acknowledge God for what you have already received.
  • Seed giving
is an additional offering given with the expectation of future blessings and increase, similar to an investment.
